When I first opened the bag it smelled like anise. I love black licorice so was looking forward to the taste. But it didn't really have a strong licorice taste. It is pleasant tasting with only a slight aftertaste that could be licorice so if you don't like licorice flavor, I don't think this is strong enough to put you off the tea. The first day, I could tell it was working. I had to be reminded to eat because I wasn't hungry or snacking around. I can't say that it helped my energy but that is because the same day, I got a shot of steroids and started a prescription of steriods so if you have ever used steriods, you know I am bouncing off the walls already. But that is another reason, it is so amazing that I wasn't eating. Usually steroids make me ravenous and I want to just keep eating and eating.  All in all, I really like the taste of this tea and I feel it helped my appetite shrink.
